Full Description

A wonderful Bless this House Ogham gift. Help your friends or family celebrate the very exciting time of moving into a new home with housewarming gifts that embrace Ireland’s ancient culture and heritage with beautiful Ogham gifts. These Irish gifts are very special.

Dimensions: slim long black wooden frame 14 cm x 49 cm

The Ogham writing, with the Irish and English translations, are painted and written in black ink on cream handmade paper. This stands out beautifully on the black background and in the slim black wooden frame.

These Ogham gifts are accompanied by an explanatory text on the back of the wooden frame, which outlines the history of Ogham writing. Ogham is the earliest form of Irish writing dating from the 4th century.  There are over 350 Ogham stones that have been discovered around Ireland. It is believed that Ogham was considered to be a magical script, written as an inscription on wood similar to wands, however unfortunately there are none in existence to confirm or deny this.  It is thought that Ogham was widely practiced by the ancient Druids as a form of sign language, as the letters had no more than five characters so the words then could be easily replicated using their hands.
