Description
The story of sea glass:
Sea Glass – or Mermaid’s Tears – are discarded or shipwrecked bottles and jars, which have been tumbling around in our oceans and rivers for years, smoothed by waves, water and sand, to create smooth frosted shards of glass. This is the most natural form of glass recycling, eventually ending up on beaches. Our sea glass has been collected from the shores of the Irish Sea. This whole process is the result of wave action tumbling the shards among rocks and sand between the tide lines. Tides in a twice a day cycle, cover and uncover the glass exposing all sides to sunlight and some components of the glass are leached by water resulting in the frosted look that identifies genuine sea glass. The amount of wave action directly affects how quickly a shard will become real sea glass, some of the sea glass pieces can be 100 to 150 years old.
