Beautiful Men of Aran Framed Bronze gift depicts 3 fishermen carrying their currach. The Currach boat is famed as the traditional fishing boat of the Aran Islands, which are situated off the west coast of Ireland. The fishermen carried these traditional boats overhead down to the sea daily. The fishermen wore homespun trousers, knitted socks and cowhide slippers known as pampooties. Each family had individual stitches and Celtic patterns on their knitted jumpers. Each design represented different families and prayers to keep them safe at sea. Sadly these patterns helped identify the fishermen if they were washed up from the sea. These warm wool Aran sweaters became famous across the world. Life was hard for the fishermen of the Aran Islands. These men were so brave to fight the strong Atlantic elements to sustain their families and communities, their camaraderie and trust in each other would have been immense.
The Men of Aran Bronze is double mounted in an attractive quality dark brown frame. The mount is signed by the artist, Rynhart.

The Men of Aran bronze gift is created by Rynhart Fine Art Bronze. Who are based in beautiful Glengarriff, Co. Cork. Jeanne Rynhart formed this company in 1981 and is well known for famous public sculptures such as Molly Malone, Annie Moore and the Rose of Tralee. In 1994 Jeanne’s daughter, Audrey, teamed up with her. Audrey and her husband, Les Elliott, now run the business from their studio in Glengarriff where their passion for Irish history and Celtic design is evident from their attention to detail in Rynhart bronze art pieces.
Rynhart’s bronze art is individually handmade and is bas relief. The process is labour intensive and starts with delicate, careful modelling. When Rynhart are happy with the model a mould is made and cast. Finally, each piece is polished and finishing touches added.
