## A Small Piece of Ireland, Worn Close to the Heart The shamrock has meant something to the Irish long before it became a symbol the world recognised. It grew quietly in the fields, a small, unassuming plant that became a way of explaining something profound — the idea that three things could be one, that the ordinary could hold the sacred. To wear one is to carry a piece of that quiet Irish knowing with you, wherever in the world you happen to be. This solid brass lapel pin was made by hand in County Westmeath, in the midlands of Ireland, by goldsmith and designer Miriam Wade. It is a small thing, but it is made with the kind of care that only comes from someone who has spent years learning to listen to metal. --- Miriam Wade trained at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin before going on to complete the rigorous Jewellery & Goldsmithing Skills course with the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland in Kilkenny — graduating as a qualified diamond grader with a deep, working knowledge of metallurgy. She brings that same exacting standard to every piece that leaves her Mullingar studio, no matter how intimate in scale. The pin is cast in solid brass and engraved by hand with a shamrock motif on its disc face. It is finished with a protective lacquer that guards against tarnishing, ensuring the piece holds its warm, golden tone over time. A butterfly clasp pin back secures it cleanly and discreetly to a lapel, pocket square fold, or jacket collar. Each pin is presented in a branded Miriam Wade tin — considered, understated, and ready to give. --- Some gifts are chosen quickly and forgotten just as fast. This is not one of those. The Shamrock Lapel Pin is the kind of thing a person keeps — pinned to a favourite blazer, tucked into a keepsake box, or passed along with a story attached to it. It sits naturally alongside the significant moments: a son or daughter receiving their Confirmation, a groom and his groomsmen on a wedding morning, a graduate stepping into whatever comes next. It is equally at home as a considered gift for someone in the Irish diaspora — a way of saying *you come from somewhere*, without needing to say very much at all. For those who simply want to wear something honest and beautifully made, it needs no occasion at all.
Story & Significance
The shamrock is a three-leaf clover and one of Ireland's most recognisable emblems. It is traditionally linked with St Patrick, who is said to have used its three leaves to explain the Christian Trinity, and it has long been worn as a small sign of Irish identity.
Its meaning is different from the four-leaf clover of luck. A shamrock gift feels Irish in a more rooted way: modest, green, familiar, and instantly understood.
