Ogham & Oak

Oak offers the wearer strength and protection. The mighty oak is a Druid sacred tree. It is often known as the King of Trees which provides the energies of strength, protection and stability. A little acorn, from which the oak grows was often worn as an amulet representing long life and good luck.

Ogham is the earliest form of Ancient Irish script dating from c.4th century. It is thought to have been widely practiced by the ancient Druids as a form of sign language. The letters had no more than five characters, which could be easily replicated with hands. The script uses dashes and lines from a central marking and is usually read from top to bottom, sometimes from right to left.

Ogham can be called the “Celtic Tree Alphabet”, as individual letters are connected to the names of various native Irish trees. This makes combining Ogham with these beautiful wooden suncatchers a natural choice for a very special Ogham love gift.
