This art print is part of Fab Cow’s ‘Inspired by Ireland’ series. This series is influenced by the rich colours of Ireland’s flowers, heather and fauna. All of which can get overwhelmed by the vast greens of the Irish landscape. Fran Leavey rebalances this by including the vibrant minority colours of Ireland. This creates a warmth and luminosity to this artwork.
This print is inspired by the landscape of Connemara, West of Ireland. In this print we can see the shape of a traditional Irish Connemara cottage. Travelling Connemara you will see such cottages in their original state, holding their character and form. Unfortunately many lie in ruins, a reminder of a desolate past, particularly of famine times. A time of mass emigration. Each of these cottages holds memories and stories of generations past and present.
This print is a night scene, nearer dusk. The full moon illuminates the cottage and surrounding landscape. The vivid colours are duller but still vibrant. Hues of turquoise, plum, orange and more, this colour combination works so well. and is true to the colours of Connemara. The contemporary abstract use of colour and shapes with the shape of the traditional Connemara cottage conjures a feeling of nostaglia. This is home to many of our Irish Diaspora, this is where their story began.
