## The Irish Harp Lapel Pin by Miriam Wade Jewellery The harp has sounded across Ireland for over a thousand years — from the great halls of ancient chieftains to the quiet parlours of the Irish diaspora, its silhouette carries the weight of a culture that has always expressed itself most honestly through music, craft, and story. To wear it close to the heart is to carry something of that inheritance with you, wherever in the world you find yourself. This beautifully considered lapel pin was conceived and crafted in County Westmeath, in the quiet midlands of Ireland, where goldsmith Miriam Wade works with the kind of focused, unhurried attention that only comes from a genuine love of the material. The harp motif engraved on its face is neither fussy nor folkloric — it is clean, contemporary, and quietly confident, the way the best Irish design has always been. --- Miriam Wade studied Jewellery and Metalwork at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin before going on to complete the rigorous Jewellery & Goldsmithing Skills programme with the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland in Kilkenny — one of the most demanding craft training pathways in the country. She graduated as a qualified diamond grader with a deep, working knowledge of metallurgy, and it shows in every piece that leaves her studio. This lapel pin is cast in solid brass and hand-finished with a fine protective lacquer that guards against tarnishing while preserving the warm, golden lustre of the metal. The disc face is engraved with a contemporary Irish harp — Ireland's official national emblem — rendered with a lightness of touch that feels modern without losing its roots. It fastens securely with a traditional butterfly clasp pin back, designed for everyday wear without fuss or worry. Each pin is presented in a branded Miriam Wade tin, making it as considered in its presentation as it is in its making. --- Some gifts mark a moment. This one marks a belonging. It is the kind of piece you give to a groomsman on a wedding morning in a country house in Connaught, or to a father on the occasion of a graduation hard-earned. It suits the Irishman abroad who wants to carry something real from home — not a souvenir, but a small, well-made object with genuine provenance. It is equally at home on the lapel of a morning suit at a formal occasion as it is on a wool overcoat on a winter afternoon. For anyone with a connection to Ireland — by birth, by blood, or simply by affection — it is a rare thing: a small piece of Irish craft that asks nothing of you except to be worn.

Story & Significance

The harp has represented Ireland since medieval times and remains the emblem of the Irish State, appearing on official seals and Irish euro coins. Ireland is unusual in having a musical instrument as a national emblem, and the modern state harp is based on the medieval harp preserved at Trinity College Dublin.

A harp motif brings music, history and national identity together in a graceful form. It is unmistakably Irish without feeling loud or overworked.
