This Celtic Cloak Brooch is a contemporary interpretation of the iconic Tara Brooch, an early medieval Irish brooch dating to around the 8th century.
Handcrafted in Co. Wicklow by Kieran Cunningham, it is made from alpaca silver with a black onyx semi-precious stone. The brooch is polished and lacquered to help prevent tarnishing.
Story & Significance
Irish high crosses are among the great works of early medieval Irish art. At monastic sites, carved stone crosses combined Christian meaning with interlace, figure carving and scenes that helped tell stories visually.
A Celtic cross design draws from that tradition of faith, craft and ornament without needing to copy one monument exactly. It gives a gift a sense of Irish spiritual heritage, with beauty and symbolism held in balance.
