5000 years ago the Great Elk wandered through the forests and boglands. It was a land of sweeping mists and gentle rain and soft sunlight. A land of pagan carvings and mysterious rituals. A land where the soothing lilt of the harp drifted over cool, clear crystal lakes and rivers.
Capturing the very essence of that era, each one of these sculptures has its own story to tell which is as old as the bog itself.

Ireland’s bogland was once home to the much sought after black bog cat, which roamed the vast bogland near the shores of Lough Neagh. A larger than usual cat, it lived on insects and small animals. It was said to bring luck and great wealth and happiness to those whose path it crossed.
Using 5,000 year old black turf from Ireland’s deepest ancient boglands, Island Turf Craft have recreated this lucky cat in hope that you too will bring a little piece of luck and happiness into your home.
The turf is sustainably sourced from some of Ireland’s oldest boglands formed from partially decomposed vegetation, which has accumulated in waterlogged places for over five thousand years. The wet turf bog is fused using glue to create different shapes, then dried in a kiln and processed for any extra carving into beautiful Celtic Gifts.
