This small Isle of Lewis Chess Set is based on the famous medieval chess pieces discovered in the Outer Hebrides in 1831. The design includes crowned kings, medieval-style knights and bishops, and rooks represented as armed sentries.
The chess board measures approximately 23 x 23 x 0.6 cm, and the pieces range from approximately 2 cm to 5 cm. The O'Gowna box measures approximately 33 x 26 x 5 cm.

Story & Significance
The Lewis chess pieces are famous medieval gaming pieces from a hoard found on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. Probably made in Norway in the late 12th or early 13th century, they speak to a western seaboard world where Gaelic and Scandinavian cultures were closely connected.
A Lewis-style chess set carries that medieval character into a playable gift. The figures feel like travellers from an older world of kings, queens, bishops and warriors, with strategy and story built into every game.
