Handcrafted in Ireland by Boru Jewelry, this Winter Solstice pendant draws on the light and reflection associated with Newgrange.
The circular sterling silver design combines flowing swirls, Trinity knots, white cubic zirconia and an 18kt yellow gold bead. It is hallmarked by the Assay Office in Dublin Castle, comes on an 18-20 inch Spiga chain, and is presented in a Boru gift box with story card.
Story & Significance
Newgrange is a Neolithic passage tomb in the Bru na Boinne landscape of County Meath, dating to around 3200 BC. Its passage and chamber are famously aligned so the winter-solstice sunrise can travel through the roof-box and illuminate the interior.
The spiral patterns associated with Newgrange are older than Celtic art, which makes them especially powerful on contemporary Irish gifts. They suggest sunlight, renewal, mystery and the long memory of a landscape people were shaping more than five thousand years ago.
