Trinity Knot
The Trinity Knot is also known as the Triquetra, which literally means three cornered. This is one of the most recognised Celtic symbols.
The Triquetra predates Christianity. It was the Celtic symbol of the Goddess Odin. The Celts believed the Triquetra to represent many things of three:
- mind, body and soul: mental, physical and spiritual;
- earth, sea and sky
- beginning, middle and end – continuity
- the past, present and future
The ancient Celtic Trinity Knot was adopted by Christianity as a symbol of the Holy Trinity. i.e. the Father, Son & Holy Spirit. This symbol is often found in ancient Irish manuscripts, such as the famous Book of Kells.
In modern times, the Trinity Knot is gifted as a token of promise; to love, to honour and to protect.
