This gift is an authentic Traditional Irish Claypipe with a Shamrock design. These Claypipes are handcrafted in Ireland using original moulds and tools from a bygone era.
Clay pipes, or DuÃdÃns, have been smoked down the ages. They were particularly popular at wakes, where they were smoked, broken and laid on the grave of the departed, hundreds of clay pipes were purchased to hand out amongst family and friends to have the last smoke with the dearly departed.
Presented in a lovely gift box with interesting information scroll.

The village of Knockcroghery in County Roscommon, Ireland, was famous for almost 300 years as a centre for the production of clay pies or ‘DúidÃns’.  In the late 1800s virtually the entire village was involved in the manufacture of the pipes with sever different families involved, each with their own kiln.  The DúidÃns were smoked extensively throughout the country by both men and women.  They were particularly popular at wakes were trays of tobacco filled pipes, Guinness and whiskey would be laid out for the mourners production of these pipes ceased abruptly in 1921 when the village was burned down during the War of Independence.  We have now revived the traditional craft of pipe making on the original site of the Curley’s claypipe facory.  using the original moulds and tools each pipe is hand-made using the same skills employed by artisans centuries ago. Traditional craftsmanship renders each pipe a unique, authentic Irish craftpiece.
Traditionally before smoking, the shank of the claypipe was dipped into some Guinness or Whiskey. Â This sealed the mouthpiece and imparted a good flavour to the clay.
