Maker profile
The Story: Danu Ceramics is the work of Ruth, a Dublin maker who graduated from the National College of Art and Design in 2011 and founded Danu in 2015. She has been based in Dublin all her life, creating small-batch pieces that bring together Irish nature, travel, ethical craft and the quiet beauty of handmade objects.
The name Danu reaches into deep cultural memory: Danu is associated with earth, water and creativity, the elements at the heart of ceramics. Ruth's design philosophy is also shaped by wabi-sabi, the idea that handmade pieces should retain natural character, small variations and the visible touch of human hands. No two pieces are ever exactly identical.
The Process: Ruth works with porcelain and ceramic materials using hand-building, slab-work and glass fusion, experimenting with different clays, glazes and details such as 22k gold, mother of pearl and glass. Each small form is shaped, fired, glazed and finished by hand, giving Danu jewellery its smooth ceramic surface, soft colour and delicate shimmer.
Bespoke Options: The current Danu Ceramics collection is a ready-to-shop selection of handmade porcelain necklaces, earrings and gift sets rather than custom orders. Browse the Danu Ceramics collection below to choose a Dublin-made piece with the right symbol, colour and sentiment.
