The Story: Ogham Treasure is the work of Katie McCay, an Athlone native whose fascination with ancient writing and symbolism led her to study Celtic Archaeology at NUI Galway. There she also developed a deep interest in metalworking, bringing together scholarship, craft and a love of Ireland's earliest written language.
Katie opened The Bastion Gallery in Athlone more than 25 years ago, and established the Ogham Treasure collection in 2012. Each piece carries a word or letter with special meaning in ancient Celtic writing, turning Ogham from a carved mark on stone into a personal piece of jewellery.
The Process: Ogham Treasure pieces are crafted in recycled silver using a mix of traditional and modern jewellery-making techniques. The clean central line and angled strokes echo the way Ogham was carved on stone, while the polished silver gives the script a quiet contemporary finish. The result is jewellery that feels minimal at first glance, then reveals a deeper Irish story.
Bespoke Options: The current Totally Irish Gifts collection focuses on ready-to-shop Ogham Treasure pieces representing Gra, the Irish word for love, in sterling silver pendants and necklaces.
