This Isle of Lewis chess set is inspired by the famous medieval chessmen discovered in the Outer Hebrides in 1831. The pieces echo the distinctive crowned kings, bishops, knights, and armed rooks associated with the historic set. Handmade by O'Gowna Studios in Co. Dublin, the set is made from cold cast porcelain, a bonded porcelain powder designed to be decorative and functional. The chess board is included and measures 38 x 38 cm, with pieces ranging from approximately 4 to 8.5 cm. Each set is handmade, so small visual variations may occur while preserving the same overall design and quality.
