Trinity Knot – Triquetra

The Trinity Knot is also known as the Triquetra, which literally means three cornered. The Triquetra predates Christianity. It was the Celtic symbol of the Goddess Odin. It is the best known of all the Celtic knots.

The Celts believed the Triquetra to represent many things:

  • mind and soul: physical, mental and spiritual;
  • earth, sea and sky
  • beginning, middle and end – continuity
  • the past, present and future

The ancient Celtic Trinity Knot was adopted by Christianity as a symbol of the Holy Trinity. i.e. the Father, Son & Holy Spirit. See this symbol in ancient Irish manuscripts, such as the famous The Book of Kells. Also found on Celtic crosses and Celtic stones all around Ireland.

In modern times, the Trinity Knot has become a symbol of promise to love, honour and protect. Which is a perfect sentiment for this Holy Trinity Cross Necklace.
