Award-winning goldsmith Garrett Mallon handcrafts contemporary Irish jewellery in Carlingford
From Carlingford, County Louth, award-winning goldsmith Garrett Mallon creates contemporary Irish jewellery shaped by traditional bench skills, mixed metals, texture and the landscape of Ireland's east coast.
Maker profile
The Story: Garrett Mallon is a traditionally trained goldsmith, trained in Dublin and London, with more than 30 years of experience at the jewellery bench. From his Design House in the medieval village of Carlingford, he creates jewellery that feels unmistakably Irish while staying contemporary, sculptural and refined.
Carlingford gives the work a strong sense of place. The lough, shorelines and mountains sit close to the workshop, while Irish heritage, culture, mysticism, mythology and nature all feed into Garrett's design language. His pieces often carry symbols that are easy to give with meaning: Ogham, hearts, shamrocks, music references and elegant forms for both women and men.
The Process: Garrett works with traditional goldsmithing skills, shaping sterling silver, gold vermeil and gold detail at the bench. Metals are cut, formed, textured, polished and combined so contrast becomes part of the design: bright against matte, silver against gold, smooth curves against carved or stamped detail. The result is jewellery with weight, touch and a clear handmade presence.
Bespoke Options: Garrett Mallon also creates bespoke pieces, wedding and engagement rings, and jewellery redesigned from older pieces through his own studio.
