Maker profile
The Story: Bog Buddies is a family-run Irish craft business based in the Midlands, where the first Bog Buddies were born in 2009. The maker story is closely tied to Ethel Kelly, also known through Ogham Wish, whose craft work has received North American Celtic Trade Association recognition and Showcase Ireland attention.
The idea is simple and full of feeling: a small piece of Irish bog can become a keepsake of home. From warm house blessings to wedding couples, new babies, family groups, hearts and shamrocks, each framed piece carries the texture of the Irish landscape into a gift that feels personal, light-hearted and deeply rooted in place.
The Process: The manufacturing work is run from Athlone, while framing, personalisation and distribution are handled at the Claypipe Visitor Centre in Knockcroghery, County Roscommon. Real Irish bog is shaped into tiny houses, hearts, figures and symbols, then arranged by hand against a clean mount inside a dark frame. The result is tactile and earthy: a small, dark fragment of Ireland, set carefully so it can be hung, gifted and remembered.
Bespoke Options: For bespoke requests, selected Bog Buddies frames can be finished with personalised wording on the mount, making them ideal for names, dates, family messages, new-home wishes, wedding notes or short blessings.
