Full Description

This striking St. Brigid’s Cross Plaque is handmade by O’Gowna Studios, Naul, Co Dublin, Ireland. Ready to hang. A traditional style St. Brigid’s Cross on a plaque with a border to give an effect of being framed. This St. Brigid’s Cross has an aged old world look and charm.

This plaque is ready to hang and is suitable for indoor and oudoor use.

Dimensions: 145 x 145 x 5 mm.

This plaque is made from a mix of bronze and limestone. This is particularly beautiful when the sun shines on the plaque as the metallic of the bronze shimmers golden.
The cross is made from a mix of pewter and limestone and is then attached to the plaque. The mix of pewter and limestone gives the cross a silver grey colour, which contrasts exceptionally well with the golden bronze.
The limestone is mined from O’Gowna’s own small quarry on his land in Naul, Co Dublin.
Note: Please allow for differences in screen colour and resolution. As each plaque is handmade there my be slight visual variations from the images shown, but does not detract from the quality of the piece.

Presented in a sturdy O’Gowna presentation box.

St. Brigid’s Cross

Brigid was the daughter of Dagda and Goddess of fertility, light and healing. She was the patroness of Blacksmiths and poetry. The Christian Saint who took her name circa 455-525 AD is said to have weaved a Brigid’s cross while converting a pagan king to Christianity on his death bed.

Her feast day is the first day of February, the start of Spring also, known as Imbolc in old Irish.

St. Brigid’s Cross is a solar wheel, a sign of good fortune which appears throughout European culture.
